You’re welcome to start with a free 20-minute consultation to see if we’re a good fit. During this virtual consult, we’ll briefly discuss what’s bringing you to therapy, your goals, and what to expect from the process. If we decide to move forward, we’ll schedule your initial intake session. You can request your consultation here.
If you’re not quite ready to schedule, you’re welcome to reach out through the contact form with any questions.

You’ll need a reliable internet connection, a private space, and a computer or smartphone with a camera and microphone. Before your session, you’ll receive a secure link to join the video meeting. To participate in telehealth, you must be physically located in Maryland or Delaware.
To use a smartphone to join a video chat, you must first download the Telehealth by SimplePractice app available in the app store for iOS or Android.
Therapy services are provided for adults (18 and older).
I specialize in anxiety and trauma, integrating approaches such as EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy), and IFS (Internal Family Systems). These evidence-based methods help address the emotional, cognitive, and physical effects of stress and trauma in a safe, collaborative way.
Your first session is focused on understanding what brings you to therapy and what you’d like to work toward. We’ll review relevant history, explore your current challenges, and begin identifying goals together.
Sessions are typically 55-60 minutes long. Many clients begin with weekly sessions to build consistency and momentum in treatment, though frequency can shift over time based on progress and goals.
The length of therapy varies for each person and depends on your specific goals, needs, and pace of progress. Some clients benefit from short-term work focused on a particular issue, while others choose longer-term therapy for deeper exploration and continued growth. What matters most isn’t how long therapy lasts, but your consistency and willingness to engage in the process. Showing up regularly and applying what you learn in sessions to your daily life helps create meaningful, lasting change.
Trauma therapy helps process experiences that were overwhelming or too much to handle at the time. It’s not only for those who have lived through extreme events—it can support anyone who has felt stuck, unsafe, or unable to move past difficult experiences. My approach is trauma-informed, meaning safety, choice, and collaboration are always at the forefront of our work.

Yes, Roe Counseling accepts select insurance plans (BCBS, United & Cigna). Coverage and copay amounts vary, so it’s recommended to confirm your benefits directly with your insurance provider. For those using self-pay or out-of-network benefits, a receipt (superbill) can be provided for potential reimbursement.
Out-of-network (OON) benefits are a type of insurance coverage that allows you to see a therapist who is not directly contracted with your insurance company. If you have OON benefits, you typically pay your therapist up front and then submit a “superbill” (an itemized receipt) to your insurance for partial reimbursement.
Using out-of-network benefits can be a great option if you want more flexibility in choosing your therapist or prefer someone who specializes in your specific needs, even if they don’t take your insurance directly. It can also help maintain greater privacy, since your therapist only shares the basic information required for reimbursement.
Yes, you can absolutely choose to pay out of pocket even if you have insurance. Many clients prefer this option because it offers greater privacy, flexibility, and control over their therapy. When you self-pay, your mental health records, diagnosis, and treatment details are not shared with your insurance company. This helps maintain your confidentiality and keeps your information off your permanent medical record. Paying privately also allows you and your therapist to set the pace, frequency, and focus of sessions without the restrictions or approval requirements that often come with insurance-based treatment.
Cancellations made with less than 24 hours’ notice or missed appointments are subject to a $70 fee. This policy helps protect appointment availability for other clients and maintains consistency in treatment.
Yes. All information shared in therapy is kept confidential and protected under HIPAA regulations. There are a few exceptions required by law, such as concerns of imminent harm to self or others, suspected abuse, or court orders, which we’ll review in your intake paperwork.
No, none of our appointments will ever be recorded or stored.
Finding the right fit matters. My style is warm, direct, and grounded, combining empathy with a practical, collaborative approach. I encourage open feedback and if something isn’t working, we’ll adjust together. I also provide referrals if you decide a different style or specialty may better meet your needs.
Many clients come to therapy after previous experiences that felt incomplete or not quite aligned. We’ll talk about what worked, what didn’t, and what you hope to do differently this time. Therapy is flexible, and I aim to meet you where you are now.
I don’t provide emergency or crisis services. My practice is best suited for ongoing, scheduled therapy sessions rather than immediate or after-hours support. If you’re ever in crisis or need urgent help, please reach out to someone right away. You can call or text 988 to reach the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline, go to your nearest emergency room, or contact 911 if you’re in immediate danger. If you prefer, you can also use local crisis hotlines or go to a trusted friend, family member, or community resource for support.
If you’re unsure whether what you’re experiencing is an emergency, it’s always okay to reach out for immediate help first. Once you’re safe and supported, we can process and plan next steps together in therapy.
Brief communication about scheduling or logistical questions is welcome via secure message in the client portal. For urgent or emergency situations, please contact 911 or go to your nearest emergency department, as email and portal messages are not monitored 24/7.
It’s totally understandable to wonder about your therapist as a person! In therapy, though, I do my best to keep my personal life and beliefs separate so our time stays focused on you. My goal is to create a space where you can share openly without worrying about being judged, disagreed with, or influenced by my opinions. Even if we hold different views, you’re always welcome to bring your thoughts, feelings, or experiences into the room.
I also take your privacy seriously and follow all HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) standards. That means what you share in therapy stays confidential, except in specific situations required by law (like safety concerns). Your trust and comfort are a top priority.
Yes. I am a Board-Approved Supervisor for Licensed Graduate Professional Counselors (LGPCs) in Maryland. I offer supervision and consultation to both early-career and licensed therapists, focusing on confidence, professional growth, and trauma-informed clinical skills.
Supervision sessions can include case conceptualization, trauma-informed care, EMDR integration, professional boundaries, work-life balance, and even the logistics of starting a private practice. Together, we explore the parts of therapy, the therapist experience, and all of the other things that grad school often doesn’t cover.
