EMDR Therapy for Trauma and Anxiety
You don't have to keep talking
about it to heal from it.
EMDR works differently than traditional talk therapy. Instead of just processing what happened, we help your nervous system actually finish what it started. The past can stay in the past.
What is EMDR?
The short version is pretty simple.
When something overwhelming happens, your brain sometimes gets stuck. The memory doesn't get stored the way normal memories do. It stays raw, and your nervous system keeps reacting to it like it's still happening.
EMDR helps your brain go back and finish processing it. Not by talking through every detail, but by working with how your body is holding it. Most people are surprised by how different they feel afterward.
It sounds a little strange until you experience it. Then it makes complete sense.
What makes it different from regular therapy
What it helps with
It's not just for PTSD.
Trauma and PTSD
Single events, ongoing experiences, or a childhood that shaped you in ways you're still untangling.
Anxiety
Worry and panic that feels out of proportion to what's actually happening right now.
Low Self-Worth
The self-criticism and shame that developed for a reason but has overstayed its welcome.
Grief and Loss
When grief feels stuck or bigger than you expected and you can't seem to move through it.
Relationship Patterns
The same dynamics keep showing up no matter how much insight you already have.
Phobias
Fears and reactions that feel completely out of your control and hard to explain to others.
What to expect
We don't jump straight into it.
Getting to know you
We talk about your history, what's been going on, and what you're hoping to get out of therapy.
Building your toolkit
Before we touch any trauma, you learn grounding and regulation skills so you feel steady in the work.
Processing
We work through specific memories and targets at a pace that feels manageable, not overwhelming.
Integration
We close each session well and track what's shifting so nothing gets left unfinished.
Good to know
Sessions are 55 minutes. Telehealth only, available throughout Maryland and Delaware.
Most people start noticing real shifts within a few months. How long it takes depends on what you're working through and where you're starting from.

EMDR
We work directly with the memories keeping you stuck. Not by talking through them over and over, but by helping your nervous system actually process and release them.
Internal Family Systems
We pay attention to the parts of you that show up in session. The part that shuts down. The part that's always on guard. Getting to know those parts is often the key to everything else.
Warm and direct
I will name things when I see them, and I will also make sure you feel safe when things get hard. Humor shows up sometimes too. I think that's okay.
